Investor Talks “in Chinese”

Titel: Investor Talks Asia 2019

17,672 km, 72 hours, 10 start-ups, 2 cities and numerous investors: these were the Investor Talks in Asia. For the first time, Deutsche Börse Venture Network brought member companies together with investors in Beijing and Shanghai from 21 to 25 October 2019.

“These were intensive days during which we brought exciting start-ups together with numerous investors. The response from both sides was very positive,” says Peter Fricke, head of Deutsche Börse Venture Network.

The start-ups from the sectors E-commerce, hard- and software, propertytech, insurtech, fintech, medtech, biotech and wind energy each had ten minutes at both locations to advertise for themselves in a small, exclusive setting in front of venture capital and private equity investors. While the investors were still reluctant to ask questions here, they used the networking opportunity that followed to get a closer look at the start-ups. “Just 24 hours after the talks, the first approaches to cooperation had already been exchanged. We expect to find a Chinese partner or investor sooner or later. Chinese investors and customers have recognised the trend towards child health at all costs and see us perfectly positioned,” says Jürgen Popp, co-founder of the biotech company InfanDx AG.

Andreas Holch, CFO of homefully, describes his impressions from the perspective of a start-up in the field of property as follows: “The dimensions in which China thinks in terms of property and technology are much larger than in our European home market. This makes it all the more important to differentiate oneself clearly and to formulate the core statements concisely. We were able to generate some leads, which we will continue to pursue on both an operational and a commercial level. Here we have benefited greatly from the support of the Deutsche Börse Venture Network”.

In addition to Asia, the Investor Talks have already taken place in European financial centres as well as in New York, Palo Alto and San Francisco. The next dates are on 12 November in Munich and from 25 to 27 November at the German Equity Forum in Frankfurt.
